The Stock Cable Shortcomings: The AKG stock wiring design sends the right channel through the two plastic coated solid steel headband wires and then uses high gauge chassis wires to complete the path to the + and - driver posts. This degrades the right (and left) channel signal path and forces the right channel signal to travel about 22" further. As for the AKG stock cable itself, the high gauge wire and the thick rubber/plastic dielectric decreases the bass response, flattens the sound-stage and veils the audio spectrum.

Equinox K701 headphone cable is wired directly to the left and right
AKG headphone drivers, thus eliminating the headband pass through.
This allows the right and left channel signal paths to travel equal
distance and removes a significant portion of the pollution.
Specifically, the headband pass through contributes to a reduction in
sound-stage and loss of definition and detail.

Sound: The Equinox K701 cable formula uses a lower gauge wire
and minimizes dielectric pollution. The new formula opens up the
sound-stage, increases and adds weight and definition to the bass
response and warms up the mid-range. The new formula also removes the
veil from the entire frequency spectrum which is specifically
noticeable in low frequency attack and the mid and upper treble range.
